School of Embedded Composite Artificial Intelligence startet zum 1. Juli

Published on Fri, 01 Jul 2022 in PRESS RELEASES

Prof. Karl Leo has been thinking about the realization of this component for more than 20 years, now it has become reality: His research group at the Institute for Applied Physics at the TU Dresden has presented the first highly efficient organic bipolar transistor. This opens up completely new perspectives for organic electronics - both in data processing and transmission, as well as in medical technology applications. The results of the research work have now been published in the leading specialist journal "Nature".

[Press release of ct.qmat cluster and Leibniz IFW]

A Dresden research team led by solid-state physicist Dr. Axel Lubk has succeeded in imaging the magnetic field of tiny magnetic nanovortices - called skyrmions - in three dimensions with a resolution of seven millionths of a millimeter. This is the first time ever that this has been achieved. For their pioneering work, the scientists have now been honored by the European Microscopy Society (EMS) with the Outstanding Paper Award 2021 for Materials Science. Project leader Lubk is a member of the Würzburg-Dresden Cluster of Excellence ct.qmat - Complexity and Topology in Quantum Matter. He will assume the CEOS Endowed Professorship for Electron Optics in August, a joint appointment of the Technical University (TU) Dresden and the Leibniz Institute for Solid State and Materials Research (IFW) Dresden.

In the framework of an EXIST Transfer of Research project, the HETEROMERGE team is developing a technology for automated material exchange for high-precision 3D printers toward market maturity, enabling multi-material printing even in the area of extremely small structure sizes of down to 100 nanometers. With this innovation, the team currently is competing for this year's Founders Award of Saxony's innovation hub ‘futureSAX’. HETEROMERGE can still be voted for in the futureSAX Audience Award until 31.05.2022.
