A high number of citations is a good indicator of the importance and scientific quality of a research paper. Among those most frequently cited worldwide are eleven researchers from TU Dresden, ten of whom are directly affiliated with TUD. Polymer chemist Xiaodong Zhuang from Shanghai Jiao Tong University named TUD as his second institution. Eight TUD researchers are listed in the Cross-Field category and are thus considered to be of outstanding scientific importance beyond their own field. This is one of the latest findings of the Highly Cited Researcher Rankings, analyzed by the Institute for Scientific Information from the American company Clarivate Analytics.

The European Research Council (ERC) has awarded a prestigious €10 million Synergy Grant to 2DPolymembrane, a research project aiming to develop ultra-thin, high-precision two-dimensional polymer membranes with transformative applications in energy and environmental science.
Prof. Xinliang Feng, Director at the Max Planck Institute of Microstructure Physics in Halle, acts as the corresponding Principal Investigator in this new research project, which unites research teams from the Technical University of Dresden and Leiden University in the Netherlands. “2DPolyMembrane” will be funded by the EU for six years, beginning in April 2025.
“This ERC Synergy Grant is a tremendous recognition of the collaborative work we’re doing to push the boundaries of 2D polymer membrane-based technologies. Our approach opens the door to breakthrough applications in energy storage and power generation. This research will push the boundaries of what’s possible, offering solutions that can lead to significant advancements in sustainability and performance across multiple sectors.”, said Feng looking into the future.

Both projects represent a balanced consortium of large industries, SMEs, and Research and Technology Organizations (RTOs), showcasing the power of collaborative innovation.
The PENTA Project PLANtAR has been honored with the prestigious Penta Innovation Award 2024, recognizing its remarkable work in advancing smart farming and sustainable agriculture. PLANtAR has developed cost-efficient, miniaturized, biocompatible monitoring electronics. These sensors detect pests, plant pathogens, soil moisture, soil nitrate content, CO2 levels, and more, helping farmers apply targeted treatments to reduce chemical use while improving efficiency.

Prof. Marc Timme, head of the Chair of Network Dynamics, won the prestigious Reinhart Koselleck grant promoted by the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) – an outstanding success!
The Reinhart-Koselleck grant funds research on strongly driven nonlinear network dynamics for 5 years and amounts to 1.5 Million Euros (incl. overhead). It constitutes the largest single-applicant research grant by the DFG, roughly comparable to an ERC grant on the European level.
