The Center for Advancing Electronics Dresden (cfaed), the Cluster of Excellence of Technische Universität Dresden (TUD) for Electronics, strengthens its research program with two international top scientists in the area of organic electronics: Prof. Dr. Stefan Mannsfeld joined the Cluster from Stanford University/US. He was born in Dresden and returned to the university where he started his research career. Prof. Xinliang Feng worked at the Max Planck Institute for Polymer Research, Mainz and Shanghai Jiao Tong University, China, before he followed the call to Dresden as Professor for ”Molecular Functional Materials.” Interdisciplinary research on a high level on the one side, a family-friendly environment with affordable child care on the other side were amongst the reasons for choosing TU Dresden

B CUBE / BIOTEC Team ‘Dresden DNAmic’ successful at the International BIOMOD Contest in Harvard

For the third time in a row, a students team of TU Dresden yesterday reached the second place at an international science contest in Harvard (USA): Under the supervision of cfaed research group leader Dr. Thorsten-Lars Schmidt, twelve students of the BIOTEC master's programs 'Molecular Bioengineering' und 'Nanobiophysics' took part in the annual ‘Harvard Biomolecular Design Competition’ (BIOMOD) in Boston. The interdisciplinary team ‘Dresden DNAmic’ uses the DNA-Origami-technique to create a nanometer-sized photonic circuit with the helices of the genetic code carrier and gold nanoparticles.

The ‘Tactile Internet’ in Focus of the Center for Advancing Electronics Dresden

The Center for Advancing Electronics Dresden (cfaed) has in focus the realization of a strong vision  - the ‘Tactile Internet’. Therefore, the initiative ‘5G Lab Germany’ has been opened on 24 september at Technische Universität Dresden (TUD).  Within the 5G Lab, 20 TUD professors have started to collaborate in an interdisciplinary team with more than 500 scientists to advance the research concerning the key technologies for the 5th generation of mobile communications and its applications.

Prof. Dr.-Ing Gerhard Fettweis received the ‘Stuart Meyer Memorial Award’ at the Fall Conference of the IEEE Vehicular Technology Society  14-17 September in Vancouver / Kanada. The award, which is endowed with $ 2,500, is a recognition for members of the IEEE Vehicular Technology Society who have both served their Society and also have contributed to the development of radio technology and science in an outstanding and exemplary manner.
